What the heck is Ginseng?
What is Ginseng?
Ginseng is the root of plants in the genus Panax, and has been used as a medicine for at least 2,000 years. The name Ginseng in Chinese means “human plant root” because the shape of Ginseng resembles human’s head, body, hands and legs. Ginseng is also called “the King of Herbs” because of its known ability increase longevity and vitality.
Where is Ginseng from?
Most Ginseng available is cultivated. Wild ginseng is rare and expensive. Cultivated Ginseng are commonly from Korea, China, Canada and United States.
What’s the effect of Ginseng?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ginseng is used to tonify Qi (energy) and has calming effects. Scientifically, Ginseng has many different properties such as antioxidation, anti-inflammation, vasorelaxation, and anticancer actions. However, clinical trial are limited at this point.
Can I use Ginseng for my pet?
Ginseng is generally safe for dogs and cats from clinical experience. It is commonly used in old age, low energy or cancerous patients. However, in patients with heat problems (anxious, feel hot all the time, drink a lot of water, cool seeking, etc.), the use of Ginseng needs to be cautious.
