Chinese Herbal Medicine Can Help with Insomnia
What’s the evidence?
In a meta-analysis study published on 2015, Chinese herbal medicine can help with insomnia in humans, and has better effect than benzodiazepines (such as valium and xanax).
How can Chinese Herbal Medicine help my pets?
Our pets can also have problem sleeping at night. Common clinical presentations include panting, circling, pacing, howling, restless, increased frequency of getting up to drink water or going out to potty at night. When advanced, it can significantly affect both the pet and their human family members. In conventional medicine, we commonly used alprazolam (Xanax) or trazodone to calm them down at night. In Traditional Chinese Medicine this problem is a sign of an imbalance in the body, most commonly yin (cooling energy) deficiency. In my experience, Chinese herbal medicine has good success in helping pets with insomnia. Also, by correcting body’s imbalance, it can prevent other diseases associated with advanced yin deficiency.
Chinese herbal medicine is generally safe with occasional mild side effects, such as vomiting and diarrhea. Chinese medicine is an individual-based medicine, each patient is prescribed specific formula based on Chinese medical diagnosis.
