Dr. Connell founded Independent Hill Veterinary Clinic, along with Dr. Ross Moore, in 1992. Dr. Connell graduated with a B.S. from The Engineering School of Lehigh University in 1975 and Phi Zeta from Louisiana State University Veterinary School in 1979. She received an MBA from George Washington University in 1986. She received certification in Veterinary Acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2005.

Dr. Connell has received post-doctorate training in Traditional Chinese Herbal Veterinary Medicine, Food Therapy, and Classical Homeopathy.

Professional association memberships include AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association), AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association), AAVA (American Association of Veterinary Acupuncture), IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society), and AHVMA (American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association).

Dr. Lisa Pinn McFaddin


Dr. McFaddin grew up in Baltimore, MD. She received her BA in biology from Kenyon College (Gambier, OH) in 2003. She graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (Blacksburg, VA) in 2007. After graduation she completed a 1-year rotating surgical and medical internship at Animal Emergency and Referral Center (currently known as Blue Pearl Northfield) in Northbrook, IL. Dr. McFaddin worked as a small animal general practitioner in the suburbs of Chicago from 2008-2012. She also provided emergency relief coverage for Blue Pearl during this time. In May 2012 she formed her own relief business called Put A Pinn In It, which provided general practice and emergency coverage for veterinary hospitals in the Chicagoland area until May 2014.

In December 2013 she completed her certification for veterinary acupuncture (CVA) through The Chi Institute (Reddick, FL). In October 2015 she completed her certification for Chinese Veterinary Food Therapy (CVFT). In January 2016 she completed a post-doctorate in Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy (CVSMT) through The Healing Oasis (Sturtevant, WI). Dr. McFaddin is also a certified through the College of Animal Chiropractors (CCOAC). In April 2016 she completed a 2.5 year post-doctorate in Chinese Veterinary Herbal Medicine (Graduate Diploma CVHM) through the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies (Australia).

Dr. McFaddin joined Independent Hill Veterinary Clinic in October 2015. She provides both Western (traditional) and Eastern (holistic) therapies. Dr. McFaddin’s primary interest is Integrative Medicine which combines the best of both Eastern and Western medicine. She is very interested in whole-food therapy, natural supplements, acupuncture, veterinary spinal manipulation, and Chinese Herbal Medicine. When not working, Dr. McFaddin spends time with her husband (Jay), dog (Winston), 2 cats (Ringo and Sofie), and hedgehog (Krampus). She is an avid crafter with a special love for knitting.

Dr. Kim Drake


Dr. Kim Drake is originally from northwest Ohio, and graduated from George Mason University in 2010 with a Bachelor in Biology.  She chose to attend St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine located on the island of Grenada and graduated in 2015.  Dr. Drake also had the pleasure of completing her Veterinary Clinical year in Dublin, Ireland with Dr Smith.  Client education is very important to Dr. Drake, as it was something she felt was lacking with her own family pets’ care as a child. 

She is also passionate about practicing preventative medicine, as it can truly help your pets live longer and healthier lives.  Other areas of veterinary medicine she also enjoys are ophthalmology, cardiology and dental care. Dr. Drake enjoys ANY outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends, meeting new people, traveling, as well as cooking (and eating)!  She and her husband, Dr. Smith, have a dog named Dodger and two cats named Frank and Cheddar.

Dr. Chang


Dr. Wei-Teng Chang grew up and finished his veterinary degree in Taiwan in 2007. He moved to United States in 2015 where he finished his one-year clinical training at Louisiana State University. Afterward, he worked at a small animal clinic in Texas for 2 years followed by an integrative practice in Arizona for a year before joining Independent Hill Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Chang’s professional interest is in preventative care and integrative medicine. He is passionate about Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, including acupuncture and herbal therapy. He received certification in acupuncture through Chi Institute of Florida in 2015. He is also a Reiki certified practitioner through Jikiden Reiki Institute of Japan, where Reiki originates. He believes the best treatment for disease is to prevent it from happening, through the balance between emotion, food, environment and body itself.

Dr. Chang has one cat, Meme, whom he adopted from a shelter in Phoenix. She is sweet and follows where her owner goes. Dr. Chang enjoys meditation, hiking, traveling, and playing video games outside of work.
